Antigua and Barbuda.

Antigua and Barbuda is a twin-island nation lying between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of two major inhabited islands, Antigua and Barbuda and a number of smaller islands (including Great Bird, Green, Guinea, Long, Maiden and York Islands). Separated by a few sea miles, the group is in the middle of the Leeward Islands part of the Lesser Antilles, roughly at 17 degrees north of the Equator. It could well be that Codrington Island is actually Barbuda Island; certainly, there is a town of Codrington on Barbuda. The politics of Antigua and Barbuda take place within a framework of a federal, parliamentary, representative democratic monarchy, in which the Head of State is the Monarch who appoints the Governor General as vice-regal representative. Elizabeth II is the present Queen of Antigua and Barbuda, having served in that position since the islands' independence from the United Kingdom in 1981. The Queen is now (2007-2010) represented by Governor General Dane Louise Agnetha Lake-Tack (1944-) who became the first woman to hold this position. A Council of Ministers is appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister, currently Winston Baldwin Spencer (1948-). The Prime Minister is the Head of Government. Executive power is exercised by the government while legislative power is vested in both the government and the two Chambers of Parliament. The bicameral Parliament consists of the Senate (seventeen members appointed by members of ...

The global climate is changing: Antigua and Barbuda
Jul 30, 2010
Series of four films about climate change in the Caribbean Islands. The global climate is changing, and the Caribbean region is feeling the change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in its Fourth Assessment Report (2007), stated that climate change is unequivocal. Observed trends include higher global surface temperatures, sea level rise, changes in rainfall patterns, and higher frequency and intensity of extreme events such as floods, droughts and heat waves. The impacts of climate change are particularly worrying for the Caribbean, with many small island states that are extremely vulnerable: Hurricanes have increased in intensity since the 1970s, and it is likely that we will see further increases during the 21st century. Sea level rise is expected to exacerbate inundation, storm surge and other coastal hazards. Coastal conditions are likely to deteriorate, for example through beach erosion and coral bleaching. Water resources in many islands are expected to become insufficient to meet demand during low-rainfall periods. New climate patterns are expected to change the geographic range of mosquito-borne diseases (such as malaria and dengue), as well as increase heat stroke and other health risks, notably for children and the elderly. The potential implications of these climatic changes are enormous, not only from the perspective of disaster risk reduction but also with regards to regional development. Economic activities such as tourism, fisheries and ...
Whales in the Caribbean off Antigua and Barbuda
Jul 31, 2010
Humpback whales pass through the island chain each year giving those of us doing tours and charters something to look forward to. Yesterday we switched off the engines in very still conditions and had the pleasure of spending over 30 minutes with a mother and her calf. Some of the passengers on the boat couldn't be held back and went over to snorkel with them. We made sure to keep good distance, but the inquisitive whales came very close to us to give us a good look. The History Of Online Gambling
Online gambling is a fairly recent practice, yet a very controversial one. Its history began in the 90's, as the internet began increasing in popularity. One of the first events to take place was when the government of an island in the Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda, passed a law in 1994 which allowed online casinos to base there. This was called the Free Trade and Processing Act. Realizing the almost endless possibilities of making money through online gambling, several entrepreneurs jumped at the now legal chance to start this new venture.
Is Online Gambling Legal?
